Do you have GOSSIPERS and those with STRONG PERSONALITIES that "control" the congregation?

i bet a lot of others have, and its strange how so many are powerless to do anything.. one sister i know was married to another jw.

he was unfaithful, she was crushed, he wasn't disfellowshipped, she forgave him, he was cruel, finally she committed adultery to get out of it.

they divorced.

PO in my cong would invite over newly converted young brothers for weekly "training" ... the purpose was "to help them to grow faster"... The other day I asked one of the "lucky onees" whats going on there ... He told me: " Well, George asked me what do I know about brother B, since he is my room mate ... so I told him ... and then he gave me a piece of paper and commanded: Write everything down! ... So I wrote...."

Later I was sitting with PO George, and all of sudden he told me: "I know everything about you! I even know, you make good friends with brother B! I even know you went to this bowling hall with B last Thursday! I do know everything!"

It is good to have well informed elders..

"Happy day" as a Christmass substitute???

some years ago me and my wife we were visited by a relative and his wife (all jws...) ... it was few days after christmass...... upon arival they gave us nicely wraped gifts ..... we joked "wow how nice of you to get us christmass gifts...!".

they replied: well it is not for christmass, but we were with our inlaws recently, and they have this nice tradition of celebrating "happy day".

they held between christmass and new years eve ... you know, its good for kids, so when kids get back to school, they are not embarassed by not having any new presents... so we thought, its neat and decided to celebrate it as well ... how do you like the idea, it is not christmass, its just a substitute...????".

Or to walk in a Kingdom hall with a lighted cigarette, but not inhalling the smoke...

Why were you baptized?

inspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.

i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.

i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

I was 20, out of home, living in another country, ... never had a real father - authority person as an example in front of me .... a nice couple started study with me (Montreal) .... he was a real example for me to follow in life ... (they were very righteous and exemplary .... later became missionaries in Ukraine...) so I got baptized to become part of that wonderful united family .... BTW really believed its the truth at the time ...

Watchtower was a false religious symbol?...

i want to say i saw this on youtube before, but i wasn't positive and couldn't find it again.

can anyone here refresh my memory as to what false religion the watchtower was a symbol for and what the symbol meant in that religion.. thank you everyone!.

Wasnt Jesus provoking overrighteous jews of his time?

When he cured the guy at Bethzatha (John 5) on sabbath, he told him "pick up your cot and walk" ... He knew exactly, this will provoke discussion with pharisees, which exactly happen ... Jesus was very good at provoking ....

So thats why I will not apologize for my topic. But at least I can apologize for not apologizing for may topic.... OK?

As a JW Did other Witnesses Annoy you by Condemning " Worldly Music" ?

i know i got bothered by all the self righteous music police who would condemn me or others for our awesome record collections from early years as a teenager .

several experiences were really quite odd .

one brother came up to me saying i was wrong to listen to the moody blues " nights in white satin "!

Oh Flipper, what a subject!

1) At a District convention it was said in my country (1992): "A young brother decided before his baptism to destroy his complete collection of Beatles records, after learning their songs were composed under drug influnece and thus under influence of demons. Isnt that a fine example for us dear brothers and sisters....???" Aplaudisment...

2) When Michael Jackson was having a concert in my country, my friend a zealous pioneer MS brother called me from Germany "Imagine, Helmut from our hall goes to se MJs concert to your town ... (Me: Whats the point???) Well, isnt MJ disfellowsiped ??.... (Me: I dont know, it was never announced...) Well, anyways, I announced that Helmut goes to see MJ to the elders, its my duty... They will deal with that!

((So I just hope, Helmut didnt speak to MJ and didnt have a meal with MJ at the concert, that would get him in troubles...))

3) Of course Queen shouldnt be listened to, since they are gays, heard so many times since I am a big fan of them ...

4) Elders talk in my hall: "Brothers, we are cautious about modern music the young ones listen to... but we must be concerned about satans influence in any music ... For example, do you thing it is proper for a christian to listen to "Ave Maria" from Johan Sebastian Bach? Of course not! It promotes false religion! (Iam not making this up!!!)
